Board member and chairwoman of the No Hate in Our State Committee, Charlotte Ferguson, organized a team to participate in the Mississippi Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Walk on September 10, 2016. The walk’s goal was to bring the community together to shed light on suicide awareness and prevention.

The walk offered participants an opportunity to make friends, find emotional support and build community while raising funds for education, advocacy, research and support programs for those impacted by suicide. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. In Mississippi, suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for ages 15- 24. Veterans comprise 22.2% of suicides.
